Privacy Policy, v1 Reference Draft

Core principle: VISENKO documents the land, not private lives.

VISENKO’s land documentation pilot uses drones, photography, video, mapping, field notes, and environmental observation to create a dated record of land, water, air, access routes, waste areas, burn sites, hazards, shorelines, structures, and visible site changes.

This policy is a v1 reference draft for pilot use. It is intended to guide safe, respectful, and privacy-conscious documentation while VISENKO develops its full operating standards.

1. Purpose

VISENKO’s purpose is environmental documentation, land stewardship, mapping, archiving, and responsible reporting. VISENKO is not a police service, enforcement agency, surveillance service, or substitute for First Nation governance, emergency response, regulators, or legal authorities.

2. Privacy Commitment

VISENKO will avoid collecting personal information whenever possible. The focus is land conditions, not people.

If people, homes, vehicles, children, licence plates, yards, ceremonies, or private activities are accidentally captured, VISENKO will treat that material as privacy-sensitive. It may be blurred, cropped, restricted, deleted, or withheld from publication.

3. What May Be Collected

VISENKO may collect:

• Drone photos and video of land conditions, waste, smoke, fire risk, water conditions, trails, access routes, structures, hazards, and environmental change.

• Ground photos and video of sites, objects, debris, signage, damage, or safety concerns.

• Flight logs, timestamps, weather notes, GPS/location notes, field notes, and map data.

• Community-submitted concerns related to land, water, air, waste, fire, access, or safety.

• Contact information only when voluntarily provided.

4. What VISENKO Will Not Do

VISENKO will not intentionally:

• Follow, target, shame, harass, or monitor private individuals.

• Hover over homes, windows, yards, children, ceremonies, or private gatherings.

• Publish identifiable people, licence plates, private yards, or minors without consent or a strong safety/legal reason.

• Use facial recognition, biometric identification, or automated person-tracking.

• Publicly accuse named individuals based only on imagery or observation.

• Sell identifiable personal information.

• Release raw sensitive footage publicly.

5. Collection Rules

VISENKO will use a “collect less, protect more” approach:

• Plan documentation before collecting.

• Aim cameras toward land conditions, not people.

• Avoid private spaces unless consent, safety, or emergency context applies.

• Keep field notes factual and neutral.

• Separate observation from interpretation.

• Respect First Nation protocols, cultural sites, ceremonies, traditional-use areas, and sensitive community information.

6. Publishing and Sharing

Before any photo, video, map, report, or social media post is shared, VISENKO will review it for privacy risk.

VISENKO will normally blur or remove:

• Faces.

• Licence plates.

• Children.

• House numbers.

• Personal documents.

• Private yard activity.

• Sensitive cultural or ceremonial information.

• Details that could create avoidable harm, conflict, retaliation, embarrassment, or theft risk.

Public materials will focus on conditions, patterns, zones, risks, and recommendations rather than personal blame.

7. Raw Files and Access

Raw files are private by default. They may be kept for verification, mapping, archive integrity, safety review, client delivery, official reporting, or legal protection.

VISENKO will use basic access categories:

• Public: edited, blurred, non-identifying material.

• Internal: working files for mapping, logs, and review.

• Restricted: files containing personal, cultural, safety, or conflict-sensitive details.

• Protected Evidence: files preserved for official reporting, legal review, or safety documentation.

8. Retention

VISENKO will keep information only as long as needed.

Routine raw files may be reviewed within 90 days. Sensitive personal information should be blurred, minimized, restricted, or deleted as soon as practical unless needed for safety, reporting, legal, or evidence reasons.

9. Requests and Concerns

People may contact VISENKO to ask whether identifiable information about them has been collected, request correction, request blurring/removal, or raise a privacy concern.

VISENKO will respond respectfully and within a reasonable time, while also considering safety, legal, evidence, and community-sensitive limits.
